Expatriates Spreading Out Across Bangkok.
Expatriates Spreading Out Across Bangkok.
Budget typically dictates the location in a city we can live regardless of where in the world this city may be. Historically Bangkok’s expatriate population have been concentrated on certain areas of the capital with one of the most popular areas being Sukhumvit followed by Silom. However this trend has shifted over the years and many have sought out new locations with the advent and success of the mass transit network.
Bangkok’s mass transit network is relatively new in comparison to other leading cities. This has meant that Thailand has been able to learn from other operating systems and build theirs with potential for future capacity. The latter something that some cities are facing daily challenges in achieving due to aged infrastructure making improvements virtually impossible. Bangkok’s BTS Skytrain and MRT has made the city smaller and extremely connected. Additionally many expatriates moving to Bangkok would have previously relied on a similar public transportation network in their own country, so are not phased by using Bangkok’s version.
This has led to expatriates spilling out across the city knowing that they have this convenient and efficient means to get around for play and for work commutes. Whilst many expatriates remain in their hordes in Sukhumvit and Silom, others can be found in the quieter and hip enclave from Victory Monument to Saphan Kwai that passes through Sanam Pao and Ari. These sois off these stations on the Sukhumvit/Light Green Line of the BTS Skytrain are filled with expatriates searching for a quieter persona than buzzing Sukhumvit, which is achieved by this relatively low rise area.
Since commercial space is at a premium in Bangkok with a distinct lack of new supply in the central areas, a new CBD has emerged at Rama 9. This has really boosted the area and has marked this as a popular place to live for people wanting to walk to their place of work but still enjoy access to Sukhumvit since Rama 9 lies on the Blue Line of the MRT. Heading northwards on the same line is Huay Kwang, Suttisan and Ladprao which are all flourishing too off the back of it lower prices. Although geographically these locations are further from the traditional Bangkok cores of Sukhumvit and Silom, they are not that far when travelling on the Blue Line meaning that residents can dip in and out of these areas as they please.
Another popular locale for expatriates and in particular for single or couple occupiers looking for smaller units as they are trying to maximise their saving potential whilst in Bangkok or wanting to spend their money travelling the region, is east on the Sukhumvit/Light Green Line to On Nut and Udom Suk. These buzzing areas are just a few stops from the popular hangout of Thong Lor but at a fraction of the price. Residents also appreciate the lower cost of living here for everyday items such as food from the markets or from the street.
All of these mentioned areas have proven to be a popular hub for expatriates due to their access to the mass transit network reaffirming the importance of distance to this system for Bangkok condominiums. If you wish to capitalise on this expanding network, then consider an Ananda condominium that are renowned for locations right next to this BTS Skytrain and MRT.
