Foreigners living in a city tend to congregate in one area. Often drawn to a certain locale due to the existing established amenities. Bangkok has its fair share of foreigners who live in the country for their employment or to enjoy the country’s low cost of living. Whilst not each and every nationality live in just one area, there is certainly a pattern that is quite visible to see.

Bangkok’s French population are drawn to Silom and neighboring Sathon where ASHTON Silom and ASHTON Chula-Siliom are situated. The French Embassy is situated on the edge of Silom on the banks of the Chao Phraya River which set the trend for this European population. The area was once home to the French secondary school on Sathon Road and despite this now having moved, the French firmly have their roots here which can be witnessed with its wealth of French restaurants and French schools.

With over 50,000 Japanese living in Bangkok, this is another expatriate population that has a strong presence in Thailand. Their embassy is on Wireless Road on the border of the prestigious Lumphini area has led to some Japanese live in Silom, however the vast majority are focused off the BTS Skytrain Stations from Phrom Phong, Thong Lor to Ekkamai on the Light Green/Sukhumvit Line where ASHTON Residence 41 and IDEO Q Sukhumvit 36 are located. The sois in these neighborhoods are lined with sushi and ramen restaurants and with community malls selling just Japanese items to cater for this demand making this a mini Tokyo.

Thailand has long been a popular destination for the Chinese. Drawn to the country for its low cost of living, host of cultural attractions and holidaying opportunities. Additionally the potential investment return and low cost for Bangkok condominiums compared to equivalents in China have been other enticing factors. Consequently the number of Chinese with an interest in the Kingdom has grown with many choosing to live around Huai Kwang and Rama 9 areas. Partly pulled in due to the more attractive property price tags than their other favorite neighborhood, Sukhumvit, it is also home to the Embassy of The People’s Republic of China and the China Cultural Centre. Both IDEO Rama 9-Asoke and IDEO New Rama 9 are located within this area ideal for this expatriate demographic.
